Hand lettered quote for wall decoration

 

Objective and Research

I found this quote in a book about vintage surf visuals and decided to hand letter it as wall decoration for my son’s bedroom. I researched more surf visuals and selected a small number of pictures to use as inspiration for my hand lettering.

 

Sketches

After deciding on the parts of the quote I wanted to emphasize, I started sketching. Over several iterations I ended up with a final design which I used to create the clean master version of the piece.

 

Digitization

The master design was scanned at 600dpi, then digitally cleaned and converted to a vector illustration, keeping the roughness of the handmade design while correcting and cleaning up some irregularities.

 

Final artwork

The cleaned up vectors were colored and then the entire piece was exported in PDF and shared with the printer in order to make the wooden wall decoration.

 

Also, the colored letter piece was overlaid on a free stock picture from unsplash.com as a digital artwork.
